LG Chem named Corporation of the Year by General Motors
GM’s Supplier of the Year award recognizes outside contributions that have assisted the automaker in achieving its goals. For LG Chem, being named GM’s 2010 Corporation of the Year is, without a doubt, due to the extensive time and effort the firm put into the development of suitable li-ion cells for Chevy’s breakthrough extended-range electric vehicle.
As great as this is for GM, it’s unlikely that the Volt will be LG Chem’s one-hit wonder. The Korean company is currently developing li-ion batteries for at least ten other automakers, including Ford, Renault and Hyundai.

DETROIT – General Motors recognized 82 of its best global automotive suppliers Thursday evening with its Supplier of the Year award during the 19th annual awards presentation held at the GM Renaissance Center.
Sixty-three of the winning suppliers have been recognized at least one additional time since the awards began in 1992.
This year’s Corporation of the Year winner is LG Chem, supplier of the battery cells that are packaged into the battery of the Chevrolet Volt electric car with extended-range capability.
“We believe the Supplier of the Year Award is a top honor in the industry,” said Bob Socia, GM vice president, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “These suppliers are a critical part of our effort to design, build and sell the world’s best vehicles.”
