CARB to host community meetings to discuss 2018-2025 LEV III regulations
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is in the process of inking out an amendment to the state’s low-emissions vehicle (LEV) regulations. The proposed amendments, referred to as LEV III, ask for more stringent tailpipe and greenhouse gas emission standards for passenger vehicles sold between 2018 and 2025.
CARB is taking a new approach with ZEV III, combining pollutants, greenhouse gas emissions and zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) requirements into a single regulation. Additionally, CARB’s proposed amendment includes efforts to accelerate the deployment of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The sheer complexity of this multi-faceted amendment has convinced CARB to host three workshops throughout the state to hear concerns from the public as the rulemaking advances.
The community meetings are scheduled for Fresno on July 12, Pacoima on July 19 and Oakland on July 26. CARB is expected to vote on the proposed amendment in late 2011.
