First Fisker Karma auctions for $220,000 in UK
Who says the MSRP for the Fisker Karma is too high? The first Karma available in the UK was auctioned off at a charity event (the Pratham UK Gala) at the Roundhouse in Camden, England. The undisclosed buyer paid £140,000 ($220,192 U.S. at today’s exchange rate) – more than double the Karma’s sticker price. The auctioned Karma will get a unique plaque signed by Fisker Automotive chief executive officer Henrik Fisker.
The plaque, or even the bragging rights to owning the UK’s first plug-in Karma, wasn’t the primary reason for the bidder’s generosity: all proceeds from the auction, which raised over £870,000 ($1.37 million U.S.), will go to the Pratham UK – a charity founded by UNICEF in 1994 to ensure that India’s children receive a proper education. Lesson #1: cars can be really expensive.
