Daewoo has launched an eAssist version of the company’s Alpheon model (LaCrosse here in the States) in Korea. The hybrid manages to deliver 25 percent better fuel economy than the standard gasoline model while reducing emissions by 22 percent. That’s thanks to a small electric motor and lithium-ion battery battery pack that work in conjunction with a 2.4-liter direct-injection gasoline engine.
The configuration is identical to the Lacrosse eAssist, which launched in China earlier this year. The Alpheon eAssist returns 33.2 mpg on the U.S. cycle, which is a fairly impressive figure for a comfortable sedan. So far, there’s no word on what sort of price premium the vehicle will carry when it goes on sale.
As with other General Motors eAssist models, the changes to the Alpheon aren’t solely mechanical. The instrument cluster boasts an Eco gauge designed to help coach drivers toward more efficient operation, and the vehicle is equipped with low-rolling resistance tires as well.
