This is actually the fourth State Review vehicle which Land Rover has delivered to Her Majesty, dating back to the 1953 Land Rover Series I and replacing the previous Range Rover State Review delivered in 2002. Prepared by JLR Special Vehicle Operations, it features a hybrid diesel engine and an open back, the better for slowly rolling by the assembled troops.
Though parade cars for heads of state are usually closed and armored for protection, it looks like she was surrounded by enough guards to keep her safe. The vehicle was used for the first time on Thursday in Cardiff, where the Queen was presented new colors to the Royal Welsh Regiment over which she presides as Colonel-in-Chief.

– Fourth State Review vehicle from Land Rover makes its debut in Cardiff
Whitley, UK, 11 June 2015 – A new, hybrid-powered State Review vehicle was used for the first time today, when Her Majesty The Queen presented New Colours to the Royal Welsh Regiment in Cardiff. The Queen is Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment.
Based on a long wheelbase Range Rover, the new vehicle features a diesel hybrid engine, which enables it to run at times purely on electric power. The State Review was designed by Land Rover Design and engineered by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations department.
This is the fourth State Review vehicle which Land Rover has provided, starting with a 1953 Land Rover Series 1. The new hybrid replaces the previous Range Rover State Review vehicle, which dates from 2002.
Jaguar Land Rover is the only automotive company to hold all three Royal Warrants, from HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH The Prince of Wales. The company also recently received a 2015 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, for reducing the environmental impact of its products and its operations.
