Volkswagen captures GreenFleet’s LCV Manufacturer of the Year award

Within days of snatching the Fleet Van Manufacturer of the Year Award, Volkswagen captured a second title: Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) Manufacturer of the Year at the GreenFleet Awards 2010. GreenFleet Awards, as its name pretty obviously implies, recognizes automakers that make a valiant effort to increase fuel economy, decrease emissions and lower operating costs of their fleet products.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles won its new title for environmental improvements made to its LCV vehicles, which include cargo-haulers like the Transporter and Caddy BlueMotion (pictured). In particular, the Caddy’s stop/start technology and battery regeneration systems make it a stand out in its class. Colin Boyton, marketing manager for GreenFleet Awards, sums up why VW captured the crown, stating:

In such difficult times, fuel economy is pivotal in reducing the operational costs of running any fleet, and when you add the environmental benefits that Volkswagen can add, it really is a win-win fleet solution. On this basis, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is a worthy winner of the Award this year.
