In late December, China-based BYD Motors announced that it intends to woo the crowd at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Well, if wooing is the automaker’s goal, then we’d have to say that a report from Plug In Cars, which claims that BYD will price its electric e6 crossover at $35,000 and its F3DM plug-in hybrid sedan at $28,800, has assisted the automaker in accomplishing its goal.

On the eve of the 2011 Detroit Auto Show’s media preview, Michael Austin, BYD’s vice president of marketing and public relations, apparently confirmed its U.S. pricing for both models and, according to Plugin Cars, revealed that it intends to sell “tens of thousands” of each vehicle here in the States by the end of 2012. Austin added that BYD expects to have at least five, but could have as many as 20, showrooms open in the U.S. by 2012. We’ll be checking out BYD’s press conference in a little bit to see what sort of confirmation we can get for these numbers.
