Remy HVH 250 motor will drive Odyne’s plug-in hybrid trucks
Waukesha, WI-based Odyne Systems, a manufacturer of turnkey hybrid systems for big trucks, has inked a motor supply deal with Remy Electric Motors, the Pendleton, IN-based automotive supplier. Under terms of the agreement, Odyne will utilize Remy’s patented High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) electric motors in their plug-in hybrid systems. Odyne says that its plug-in setup increases a truck’s on-road fuel efficiency and provides electric-launch assist. Once stationary – like when parked at a construction site – the work trucks are able to use juice from Odyne’s hybrid system to power on-site equipment without firing up their engines. Odyne claims that its plug-in hybrid system reduces a fleet’s operating costs and, depending on duty cycle, enables trucks to obtain fuel economy improvements of up to 50 percent compared to diesel-only rigs.

Remy HVH250 Electric Motors To Be Used With Odyne Plug-In Hybrid Systems
Waukesha, WI – May 10, 2011 – Waukesha based Odyne Systems, LLC, a leading manufacturer of hybrid systems for medium and heavy duty trucks, has signed a long term motor supply agreement with Remy Electric Motors, Inc., North America’s largest independent manufacturer of advanced electric propulsion motors. Under the new agreement, Odyne will use Remy’s HVH250 electric motors in their plug-in hybrid system, which increases a large truck’s on-road fuel efficiency, and provides launch assist and regenerative braking. Once stationary at the jobsite, work trucks are able to use Odyne’s hybrid system to operate worksite applications without using engine power.
“This partnership between Remy and Odyne brings together two innovative companies whose technologies will deliver better performance for medium and large work vehicles,” said Joe Dalum, President and Chief Executive Officer of Odyne Systems. “As part of Odyne’s unique system, Remy’s HVH motor will help reduce operating costs through higher efficiency and will provide enough quiet power onsite with Odyne’s battery system to run truck-mounted equipment for hours with the engine off. This collaboration with Remy will build upon our strong experience in helping companies reduce their carbon footprint and meet sustainable energy goals. This partnership is especially relevant with today’s high fuel prices.” A leader in plug-in hybrid technology, Odyne has developed proprietary and patented hybrid technology combining reliable electric power conversion, power control and energy storage technology with advanced electric propulsion motors, modular battery systems and other components. The Odyne plug-in hybrid drive system reduces fleet operating and maintenance costs, and depending on duty cycle, enables large trucks to obtain fuel economy improvements of up to 50% or greater, compared to traditional diesel engines.
Remy Electric Motors VP/General Manager Kevin Quinn said, “The integration of Remy’s electric motor into Odyne’s system demonstrates the power and flexibility of our HVH motor. It can power a vehicle, act as a generator and can provide auxiliary power. With over a billion miles of proven reliability and power on the road, we are delighted our Remy electric motors will now provide that same durability and efficiency for Odyne’s plug-in hybrid system.”
Remy’s patented High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) technology’s world-class torque and power density deliver added speed and range to electric vehicles through direct and regen power. Large OEMs, system integrators and emerging OEMs have chosen the Remy HVH electric motor for its superior technology, reliability and the speed to market that comes with Remy’s existing global production capacity.
Odyne’s plug-in hybrid systems for medium and heavy duty trucks are a turnkey hybrid solution for companies that utilize vehicles with driving cycles featuring a high percentage of starting and stopping, along with extended periods of jobsite idle time. Companies operating utility or work trucks with this profile benefit significantly by using the company’s proprietary parallel plug-in hybrid system. Odyne’s unique modular system can be installed on a wide variety of new and existing vehicles to reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions and operate quietly at the jobsite.
Key differentiators customers will experience with Odyne systems featuring the Remy motor are:
* Improved performance – more acceleration – with power exceeding the competition
* Improved ability to operate equipment with high loads, surpassing the competition
* Quieter jobsite operation – more energy – a large plug-in battery system for longer periods with the engine off
* Rugged commercial truck applications – the motor core is field proven, with an excellent quality record
* Higher value proposition – leveraging the cost advantage of leading component suppliers and a unique modular hybrid system.
