Set to quadruple its Prius-badged vehicle lineup with the addition of the Prius V, Prius Plug-in and Prius C, Toyota says that autos bearing the Prius nameplate may soon become the company’s best-selling vehicles in the U.S., surpassing the Corolla and Camry.

While speaking at a Prius V media event, Ed Larocque, Toyota’s national marketing manager for advanced technology vehicles, stated, “We could see Prius eventually leading Toyota sales in the U.S.” In fact, it’s only here in the States where Toyota will offer all four Prius variants.

According to Larocque, the Prius V will, due to its cargo-hauling capabilities and city fuel economy rating of 44 miles per gallon, have crossover appeal and draw in customers that have shown no interest in the non-supersized Prius. Larocque says that the Prius V “will compete in multiple segments,” adding that the V will account for up to 20 percent of total Prius sales in the U.S.
