Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid will come to the party packing a combined 380 horsepower. A total of 333 of those horses will be churned out by the Panamera’s supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine and 47 hp stem from its electric motor. An eight-speed automatic transmission handles shifting duties and regenerative braking charges the Panamera’s nickel-metal hydride battery. Porsche claims that the Panamera’s gas-electric setup is good for 34.5 miles per gallon combined and emissions come in at approximately 159 grams per kilometer of CO2. So far, all standard calculation and comparsion figures.
However, Porsche is also touting a new way of measuring how “green” a car is, claiming that the Panamera Hybrid emits less grams of CO2 per hp than virtually every other car on the road, including the Toyota Prius. As pointed out on an Autocar forum, the Panamera Hybrid boasts 2.4 hp per gram of CO2 emissions, while the Prius offers only 1.5 hp per gram of CO2 emissions. Yeah, we’re not big fans of crunching the numbers like this, either. Obviously, the Prius emits less CO2 overall, making it the “greener” of the two vehicles. However, Porsche is not the only automaker to claim that a high-powered car spews less CO2 per hp than a hybrid.
