Obama in Indianapolis Friday to talk about hybrid buses, reducing oil imports

President Obama will visit Indianapolis, IN on Friday, rescheduling a trip to Allison Transmission, a global provider of commercial-duty automatic transmissions and hybrid-propulsion systems, that was delayed due to budget negotiations. The White House says that the President will tour Allison’s facilities before speaking to workers about the importance of slashing oil imports, while also addressing the immediate need for a cleaner and more secure energy future.

Much of Obama’s speech will focus on highlighting Allison’s work in creating systems that reduce the fuel consumption of buses. Allison’s hybrid-propulsion systems, which are designed for commercial-duty vehicle applications, have already saved an estimated 17 million gallons of diesel fuel worldwide.

Allison currently employs around 2,500 people in Indiana and last month announced plans to expand its operations there, creating up to 205 additional jobs by 2013. That sounds like a message a president wants to be a part of.
