Even though Toyota is currently prepping for the media launch of its Prius V at the end of May, the Japanese automaker found time in its hectic schedule to make a pit stop in Berkeley, CA, giving HybridCars.com an exclusive peek at the wagon-like hybrid. The crew at HybridCars snapped some close-up photos that “reveal if the V for Versatility lives up to its names.”
The Prius V is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that cranks out 98 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder gasser is paired to a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. Toyota estimates that the Prius V’s fuel economy ratings will come in at 42 miles per gallon city, 38 mpg highway and 40 mpg combined. The Prius V should hit dealer showrooms sometime this summer.
