It’s that time again: March 2011 sales have been tallied and hybrid vehicles posted gains of 46.4 percent compared to the same month last year. They shot up an almost identical 46.5 percent compared to February 2011. Overall, sales of hybrid models hit 34,082 units in March, accounting for 2.74 percent of the 1,241,951 vehicles sold in the U.S. last month.

Once again, the Toyota Prius stood atop the gas-electric segment, racking up 18,605 sales in March. The Honda Insight, with 2,782 units sold, retained second place. The Lexus CT 200h, a newbie in the hybrid segment, captured third with 2,199 units sold. The Honda CR-Z and Ford Fusion Hybrid finished the month in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
