GM to participate in Shanghai EV International Pilot City Partnership
Kevin Wale, president and managing director of the GM China Group, had this to say of The General’s involvement in the Pilot City Partnership:
No company has made greater advances in vehicle electrification than GM. We are pleased to be sharing our achievements and expanding our cooperation to ensure a cleaner, greener future for China and its people.
We’re sure that other automakers might disagree with the advancement claim, but that’s par for the course, we suppose. On a related note, both the Chevrolet Volt and the EN-V concept were recently displayed at the Shanghai Jiading International Electric Vehicle Demo Zone.

2011-04-22
General Motors signed a letter of intent to participate in the Shanghai EV International Pilot City Partnership today during the 2011 International Forum on Electric Vehicle Pilot City and Industrial Development. GM also brought some of its latest advanced technology vehicles to the event at the Shanghai Jiading International Electric Vehicle Demo Zone.
GM is showcasing the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle and Electric Networked-Vehicle (EN-V) concept. The vehicles are part of a test drive involving officials from the Shanghai Municipal Government, China’s Ministry of Science and Technology, and the International Energy Agency, along with representatives from Electric Vehicle Initiatives (EVI) member countries and pilot cities.
The Shanghai EV International Pilot City Partnership was organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers of China, the Jiading District Shanghai International Automobile City Management Committee Office and Tongji University. It will implement the EVI, which was jointly proposed by the governments of China and the United States at the Clean Energy Ministerial Meeting held in Washington, D.C., on July 19-20, 2010.
GM will help promote the demonstration and commercialization of electric vehicles by sharing its latest advanced technology achievements and expertise, contributing to the development of electric vehicle infrastructure and standards, facilitating international exchanges and promoting electric vehicles.
“No company has made greater advances in vehicle electrification than GM,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group. “We are pleased to be sharing our achievements and expanding our cooperation to ensure a cleaner, greener future for China and its people.”
The award-winning EN-V was one of the stars of the SAIC-GM Pavilion at World Expo 2010 Shanghai. The intelligent two-seat electric vehicle concept introduces a new automobile DNA based on electrification and connectivity. It aims to tackle urban problems such as traffic congestion, parking availability, air quality, reliance on petroleum and affordability.
The Chevrolet Volt provides the efficiency of an electric vehicle, with no compromise in vehicle performance, and the security of being able to drive extended distances due to its onboard engine generator. Later this year, China will be among the first global markets to introduce the Volt.
