BMW i8 plug-in hybrid lands role in next Mission Impossible film
The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics, which is now officially called the i8, has reportedly landed a role in the upcoming Mission Impossible: The Ghost Protocol flick. Earlier this month, the i8 was spotted on stage in Vancouver, British Columbia, where the crew is currently filming. The i8 supercar will supposedly share screen time with the 2012 BMW 6 Series.
The i8 is expected to be powered by a 328-horsepower three-cylinder diesel-hybrid powertrain. The ultra-lightweight production car is expected to dash from 0-100 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds and top out at 155 mph. During normal driving, the i8 supercar is estimated to achieve 62.5 miles per gallon, but we’re pretty sure that the type of motoring that the i8 will be subject to in the Mission Impossible film won’t include an abundance of “normal” driving.
When we’ll see a production version of the i8 in showrooms is still unclear, though some reports claim that it will appear in 2013 at a price north of $160,000. So, about the same as ten movies tickets.
