With three races to go in the 2015 season and over 100 points off the leaders at Porsche, Toyota doesn’t look likely to be FIA World Endurance Champion again this year. While it might not grab the title, the TS040 Hybrid can cook a mean breakfast, though. The LMP1 racer can harvest 6 megajoules of energy from regenerative braking during a lap of Le Mans, which lets the car produce over 1,000 horsepower when its electric motors are working in concert with a 3.7-liter V8.
Rather than using the grunt to spin tires, the team recently showed what was possible by channeling the current into making eggs, toast, and coffee for 171 people. The result was quite… electrifying.
It’s fascinating to see just how much energy a modern LMP1 car can actually recuperate, and Porsche is regenerating even more at eight megajoules. The visuals in this clip look fantastic, although there’s likely a little trickery going on here. The TS040 might be a hybrid, but standing that close to the V8 at full chat would likely leave folks with their ears ringing.
