Polestar, Volvo’s closely affiliated racing and tuning partner, has announced a new range of upgrades for the V60 D6 PHEV. The package centers around a performance boost, squeezing out an extra 15 horsepower and 22 pound-feet of torque from the diesel-hybrid powertrain to bring output up to 298 hp and 494 lb-ft.
That’s enough to make the Polestar-enhanced V60 hybrid the most powerful diesel Volvo has ever offered. The upgrades drop the 0-62 time down to six seconds flat, down from the 6.2 seconds we’d previously seen quoted for the incrementally shorter 0-60 time, all without sacrificing the diesel hybrid’s fuel consumption or emissions figures or voiding the warranty.
Call it a win-win scenario, then, (especially with the optional factory R-Design package) and scope out the details in the press release below. Unfortunately, since the V60 D6 PHEV isn’t available Stateside, this upgraded diesel hybrid power-wagon remains out of reach – which is just as well, because the package is currently only being offered in the UK, Netherlands and Sweden.
The latest model to be included in the Polestar Performance range is the Volvo V60 D6 Plug-in Hybrid. The Polestar optimisation increases the power output to a total of 298 hp and 670 Nm, making it the strongest ever diesel model from Volvo.
“The Polestar optimisation for the V60 D6 combines a strong fuel economy with performance. We are happy to be able to offer the Volvo customers with more driving pleasure in combination with the latest hybrid technology, a very interesting area for the future,” said Hans Bååth, marketing director for Polestar.
The new optimisation increases the power of the diesel engine with 15 hp and 30 Nm, including an optimised power graph. Combined with the electric engine of 68 hp and 200 Nm, the performance figures are improved to 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, this with unchanged fuel consumption and emission levels: 1.8 l/100 km and 48 g/km.
The optimisation makes the car more fun to drive, at the same time as it increases the safety in situations where you need extra performance, for example during an overtaking maneuver.
Polestar Performance is installed by your Volvo dealer with retained Volvo warranty. The work can be carried out in connection with a regular service, tyre change, installation of Volvo accessories or reconditioning.
