2016 Toyota Prius MPG ratings now official
On the mixed route of our test drive, we returned 57.3 mpg in a Prius Two with ease, and we enjoyed driving it more than any previous model. On the initial highway stretch, the hatchback indicated 67.3 mpg. The full range of the new model is composed of the Prius Two, Prius Two Eco, Prius Three, Prius Three Touring, Prius Four, and Prius Four Touring, and they all have the best fuel economy of any car that doesn’t get plugged into a charger.
For comparison, the 2015 Prius is rated at 51 city, 48 highway, and 50 combined. Checking a slew of driver ratings on real-world fuel economy sites shows that drivers are getting very close to that when they drive the Prius without a light foot, exceeding it when they use green techniques. Keeping all things similar, the 52 mpg combined in the 2016 Prius will save you 12 gallons of fuel a year if you drive 12,000 miles compared to the 2015 model.
