While Techrules’ concept art of the model appear almost Batmobile-like, the real deal, which features a central driving position for the driver and two seats behind the driver, has more rounded edges (as well as a camouflage-type paint job with lots of squiggles). Either way, the car is designed to keep all three occupants under a jet-fighter-type canopy, making it all the more funky.
Techrules first showed off its GT96 and AT96 vehicles at the Geneva Motor Show last March. The models are categorized as Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicles (TREV), meaning that an on-board small jet turbine serves as a generator for the electric motor, and that the cars might be able to run on anything from gasoline to diesel to natural gas. At the time, the fledgling automaker said the combination produced more than 1,000 horsepower, and that both models could go more than 1,200 miles on a full tank. Top speed is more than 200 miles per hour, while the cars are said to be able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds.
Techrules said the cars would officially see the light of day “within a few years.” No pricing has been disclosed, although if it ever hits the road with specs like these it’d be very expensive.
