It’s only two minutes and 16 sixteen seconds long, but the new song from former Fleet Foxes drummer J. Tillman (aka Father John Misty) makes a big statement mocking corporate folk. Or so the music press says.
Quiet, inoffensive, and ready for sunset images of your favorite hybrid, the song is, on its own, nothing all that crazy. But, when you know that its title is Prius Commercial Demo 1, then some of the sarcasm snaps into focus. According to SPIN, it might be, “his most incisive parody yet.”
The lyrics are exactly the kind of safe nonsense that fits perfectly well with an advertising backdrop. “And I drink whiskey/When I’m not drinking rye,” he sings, along with, “I never love to say goodbye / When I look into your eyes.”
