China-based Techrules has 1,030-hp turbine-hybrid for Geneva

A new Beijing-based automaker called Techrules claims to have a turbine-hybrid supercar concept with 1,030 horsepower to debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. If that huge output isn’t hard enough to believe, the company also asserts the vehicle has a driving range of over 1,243 miles. The business calls this improbable machine the TREV, an acronym for Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle.

Techrules claims the key to these lofty performance figures is the automaker’s “innovative range-extending turbine recharging technology.” The company doesn’t say how this solution differs from previous attempts at the idea, though. For example, New York City experimented with diesel-fueled microturbines for a hybrid bus in 2007. There was also a one-off hybrid supercar with Capstone’s microturbines in 2009. Jaguar even toyed with the layout on the original version of the C-X75 concept in 2010.

The company’s single teaser doesn’t offer many hints about the design, but the vehicles on the left and right have slightly different headlights, which suggests Techrules could have two concepts for Geneva. We’re curious to see what the automaker debuts in Switzerland but still dubious about the firm’s performance claims until more info comes out.
